Neesha’s Dhaal

The best lentil soup! Here is Neesha’s recipe:

Note - This is a “simple” Dhaal recipe because we wanted to avoid chunks.

  • Soak 2 cups of Dhaal in water for at least 1 hour.

  • Coat bottom of pan w/ oil

  • Add a pinch of ground cumin seeds.

  • Add the Dhaal with 4 cups of water

  • Add in ground turmeric, chaat masala and salt.

  • Cook until soft.

Neesha’s hot soup

Neesha did some experimenting in the kitchen, it was amazing! Here is recipe:

  • 32oz Chicken Broth

  • 1 cup of water.

  • ginger + garlic finely chopped

  • 5 stalks of celery

  • bushel of kale

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • dash of cayenne

  • 1/3 cup half and half

  • 1/2 lemon (squeezed)

Cook the celery, garlic and ginger in the oil with salt and pepper for 5 minutes. Then add the chicken stock and water and kale. Stir and bring to a boil and then simmer for 15 minutes. Use a hand bender to blend all the contents together. Add the half n half, nutmeg, cayenne and lemon juice. Voila!
